Here is the uncomfortable truth about running a services business.
You won’t always know everything about every project.
I used to turn down big leads because I would think, “That’s outside our wheelhouse. I don’t exactly know how to do it.”
But the more I did that, the more I saw myself caught up in smaller deals while big dollars passed by me.
In 2010, I got an email from a major video streaming provider needing analytics for their mobile app.
My heart sank imagining the potential revenue – this was a $500M+ in revenue business.
And it was finally our opportunity to ride this new wave.
But my business partner, who was the more technical person, refused to deliver anything mobile because we didn’t know it.
But couldn’t let it pass.
Long story short, we ended up selling the deal and making $30K!
And eventually established an independent practice for mobile analytics.
